Annotation Canada, a famous TV ad claims, it not only "the second largest landmass" and "the first nation of Hockey", but also "the best part of North America". However, Canada ist also a topic that has often been neglected in the German advanced EFL-classroom so far. This anthology provides an informative and amusing glance at the fascinating variety Canada has to offer in many different fiedls like, for example, history, culture and geography. It makes this part of the Anglo-American world more easily accessible for advanced learners and teachers of English in Germany and facilitates an extended study of the whole of the English-speaking world.

15 texts from different genres such as folk tale, poem, autobiography, essay, radio-play, non-fiction monograph, collage, picture book story, short story, diary entry and satire form the heart of the 15 chapters arranged in the three sections

- Past and Present (chapters 1 - 4)

- Country and Peoples (chapters 5 - 8)

- Cultures and Identities (chapter 9 - 15).

Every chapter provides background information in die form of Info Boxes and / or Bio-Data plus thematically related visual materials including paintings, cartoons, pictures, portraits, photographs, (illustrated) maps and tables. They have been chosen to reflect the history and present state of Canada as a young and multi-faceted nation with great potential: The annual UN report which compares standard of living, education and longevity in 2000 declared Canada the best country in the world to live in - for the seventh year in a row!

The accompanying Resource Book contains detailed commentaries on the 15 texts as well as on their cultural context and (historical) background. It also provides additional Info Sheets for follow-up work on each of the 15 chapters.
